Old Film Camera Lenses

Thanks to ebay, the world of film lenses has been opened up to the digital age. I have just tried to bite the LBA (lens buying addiction), with the purchase of 2 lenses. The Cosina 28mm f2.8 and the off-brand 135mm f2.8.

I have recently received my Cosina 28mm f2.8 in the mail and have found out how good the old glass is mostly, the best glass! The quality of the pictures is so good compared to the two kit lenses I also own. The quick speed of the f2.8 is so nice to have and makes the background OOF (out of focus) area look so nice!

Here is a very quick picture of my set-up right now.

I think everyone should go to their local pawn shop, donation stores, ebay and places like craigslist or kijiki and find these lenses. Not only is it fun to go out and look at these pieces of glass, but the results you can create are mind blowing. Good luck!

Here is a quick shot of my cat with my new 28!

The Dark Knight

Go see this movie now! I happened to go see it on Friday at 11:00pm and it was one of the best movies I’ve seen in a long time. But go early to buy your ticket and get to the theater 1 hour+ early to get a good seat! We got our seats at 9pm for the 11pm show, arrived to the theater at 10pm and still was close to the end of the waiting line.

Go see this movie now! It is a must see!

Ubuntu

I just happened to hear about a little operating system from some people called “Linux”. It is a very stable and secure OS that more people need to know about. It is free (yes, completely free!) and very stable. If you are used to Windows, Linux makes it very easy with with a distribution called “Ubuntu”. Ubuntu means some gibberish about equality or something lofty. All you need to know is that it is free, secure, stable and awesome!  You don’t even have to un-install Windows.  You can run both on the same computer!  Do it now!

Ubuntu

*edit*
Thanks to the helpful comment, I must have been on an Ubuntu high as I mistakenly referred to Ubuntu as the GUI. This is not the case. Ubuntu is a distribution and Gnome or similar is the GUI. You should still get Ubuntu NOW!

Update on Bell Mobility

Hilarious thing came in the mail today! Apparently, Bell thinks that some customers might be getting a little displeased with their services. So instead of doing anything meaningful and productive, they send me a letter saying:

“Dear Tyler B,

I would like to take a moment to thank you for your business and tell you how much we appreciate you as a client. At Bell Mobility, we work very hard t ensure that you are satisfied with our service.I believe that you should expect nothing less than the best from us. It all starts with giving you access to the best coverage on the fastest and largest mobile network across North America. That network makes it easier for you to enjoy exclusive services such as Canada’s largest mobile music library and HBO TV shows on your phone.

And while we aren’t perfect, we do provide the beset client care service in our industry in Canada. For example, only with Bell do you have the option to have us call you back at a more convenient time. And we also offer more Self serve options than any other carrier, while having a dedicated representative ready to help if you need in-person support.Once again, thank you for being a Bell Mobility client. I hope that our commitment to earning your business means that you will stay with us for years to come.”

My favorite line is we aren’t perfect, but we have people to talk to when you call.

Maybe Bell should start taking complaints seriously and not giving people a ridiculous charge for incoming text messages. Just a thought.

Thanks Bell for providing a service that you know isn’t perfect and apologizing for it instead of fixing it. [/sarcasim]

I hate hang ups!

I hate when people hang up on me. It really irritates me. That is all.

Bell Mobility and SMS

I’m not sure if anyone has heard or cares about the the incoming price adjustment regarding Bells incoming text messages. The price is currently free, but it is moving to $0.15 in August. This may not seem like a big deal, but people like me use incoming texts a lot (more later). The argument is that the 140 character SMS’s are apparently clogging up Bells system just like peer-to-peer networks. But this time the customer will pay.

Some people have made the point that the price of SMS’s should be raised, and I agree completely (sort of…). If the price of SMS has to rise, I’d rather the onus be on the person in control. Sending a text is a completely voluntary thing to do, while receiving a text has nothing to do with the person receiving. Maybe instead of raising the cost of home phone lines, you will have to pay for incoming calls at home! It is Bell after all.

Now about me… I have my Gmail/ Google Calander linked to my stupid phone (It is not a smart phone) using text messages. So I get the title of emails and the jist of my events without having to check things. This has worked best for me but now it will cost me a couple of dollars a month.

I am mad only because now to continue doing this I will need to upgrade my plan to something I dont need. Thank you Bell, you are the beacon for which all telecoms companies should follow.
